Hooray 2014!

Dear Parents and Families-

2014 is here!  This is my favorite time of the school year.   Please take some time to double check your student’s school supplies.  I’ve noticed that students are running low on pencils and lined notebook paper for their binders.  At the beginning of the year, I instructed students to put only what they needed in their binders and to take the rest home.  Now is a good time to dip into those reserves.

Prior to the break I asked the kids to read a book over the break.  They were told that they would need to think of a creative way to present their book to the class.  The reports were not due today, only the completion of their book.  Presentations will begin next Thursday 1-16.  The link below takes you to a list of 150 different ways for students to present a book other than the standard written report. I will go over this assignment in more detail in class.

Winter is Here!

What does a snowman call snowballs?

Children!

I hope you are warm and safe during this crazy weather.  Below are links to some math practice sheets.  Please print off one or more of these for your student to stay sharp during this time off.  Kids may also write Perfect Paragraph book reviews, or write a story about how they spent their snow days.  Look forward to seeing you soon.

October Update

September is in the books.  Room 13 kids enjoyed two outdoor adventures.  Our first trip was to McGregor Park on the Rogue River.  Here students learned about local forest management and botany.  Next, our kids endured a long bus ride to Lava Beds National Park for some cave exploration.  We had incredible weather for both trips.  I really appreciate the excellent behavior that our kids showed.  Our first trips were fun, educational, and exciting.  Truly a great way to start the school year.

October is shaping up to be a busy month too.  This week we have our Roadrunner Run fund raiser.  Room 13 is scheduled to run on Thursday at 1:45.  We are still looking for parent volunteers.  If you are interested, please email and I’ll set you up.  On October 23 we have a trip to Crater Lake National Park.  This trip is pending the government re-opening in time.  Keep your fingers crossed.  October 31 is the Sam’s Valley Mini-marathon.  This annual event is open to all 4th and 5th graders in the district and has been going on since 1974!

As you can see the 2013 school year is off to a fast start.  Thank you for sending such incredible kids to work with everyday.

Field Trips

We have two field trips coming up.  You can download the permission slips for these below.  At this point I am still looking for volunteers to go to the Lava Beds.  Please remember, in order to go on any district field trips you must have a volunteer information packet filled out and on file within the last two years.  Volunteer packets were sent home last Thursday.  Thank you!
